Tom Wilkinson writes:

It is with great sadness that we report the death of David Wilkinson, active member of Writers in Oxford and former chair of its life writing group.
He was an author of two biographies of environmental pioneers (“Keeping the Barbarians at Bay” on TV host-turned-ecologist Kenneth Allsop, and “Fight For It Now” about John Dower and the birth of National Parks in the UK), and he wrote on a wide range of environmental topics for everyone from the Guardian to Country Life, alongside his career as a consultant on Environmental Policy.
He’ll be remembered by his family as a kind, funny soul, fond of walking, cycling and birdwatching, especially if those outings ended at a real ale pub. Sometimes he skipped the walking, cycling and birdwatching if the pub was good enough. He leaves his wife Kathryn, son Tom, two grandchildren and a huge number of annotated OS maps.
